ANR 111N: Agroecology and Tohono O’odham Crop Production
Prerequisites: None
Credits: 4 cr. hrs. (6 pds: 3 lec, 3 lab)
Course Description: Agroecology emphasizes relationships between crops and their environment. This course combines classroom and field activities to learn about sustainable traditional and commercial crop production. Topics include crops, soil, insects, and weed management, composting, planting, irrigation, harvesting, and Tohono O’odham farming history. Organic production, which does not make use of synthetic chemicals, is emphasized. Classroom learning is put into practice during the lab portion of class which involves hands-on activities at TOCC’s Student Learning Oidag (field) at TOCC’s West Campus.
