SWU 171: Introduction to Social Work
Prerequisite: None
Credits: 3 cr. hrs. (3 pds: 3 lec)
Course Description: Study of the unique tenants of social work practice and the institution of social
welfare. The history and development of social work as a profession, concepts of social justice and
human rights. An exploration of the functions and roles of social work and career settings. Students
demonstrate increased awareness of personal values, the NASW Code of Ethics, and Himdag values.
