This course includes the study of the history, philosophy, and current educational practices and theories in special education. It explores different types of assessments for identifying and diagnosing special needs, characteristics associated with these diagnoses, and available referral services and resources. Cultural considerations including early intervention services, PreK-12th grade special education; student transitioning within the school and between school and community. It also includes supporting home and school collaboration, focusing on communication between the IEP, IFSP, and MET members, implementing appropriate modifications, and supporting ongoing assessment.
