SLR 104: Basic Electricity
Prerequisites: None
Credits: 3 cr. hrs. (4 periods: 2 lec., 2 lab)
Course Description: Introduction to basic electoral principals, circuits, and measurements.
Learning outcomes for the course:
1. Discuss the importance of following general safety rules, knowing first-aid, selecting proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), proper grounding and the use of Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters, (GFCI’s).
2. Demonstrate the proper use of ladders, scaffolds and tools.
3. Explain the effect of electric current in the body.
4. Discuss the differences between analog and digital meters.
5. Demonstrate the proper connection of voltmeters, anameters, and ohmmeters into circuits and proper use of range and function switches on multimeters.
6. Discuss the structure of atoms and differences between conductors and insulators.
7. Define series and parallel circuits and determine electrical quantities in them.
